The Frick's education department designs programs that explore the interdisciplinary nature of the site.

From fine art in The Frick Art Museum to primary sources in Clayton to the industry of transportation in our Car and Carriage Museum, our programs stress hands-on, interactive learning, provide collaborative experiences, and explore deductive reasoning and critical thinking for all ages.

  Act 48 Teacher Workshop: The Automobile's Role in Reshaping the American Landscape (October 11, 2008, 10:00 AM to 3:30 PM)

The vehicles in our transportation collection illustrate how technological and economic innovation at the turn of the last century let to incredibly swift and sweeping changes across American society. A close look at vehicles ranging from highwheeler bicycles and carriages to the Model T, an examination of primary sources, and a hands-on assembly line activity round out the day. Box lunch included.

Teachers will earn 5 Act 48 activity hours.

$10 teacher members; $14 teacher non-members.

  Act 48 Teacher Workshop: Figure it Out: Visual Thinking Strategy (November 1, 2008, 10:00 AM to 3:30 PM)

Using the works of art in From Michelangelo to Annibale Carracci: A Century of Italian Drawings from the Prado as a starting point, hone your skills in facilitating class discussions with guided conversations and reflection. Experience drawing exercises that encourage active observation and discover how viewing art and relating its many meanings can translate into critical thinking proficiency. Box lunch included.

  ACT 48 Teachers Workshop- A Different Way of Looking: Multiple Intelligence Theory (February 7, 2009, 10:00 AM to 3:30 PM)

Based on the theories of Howard Gardner, Multiple Intelligence Theory looks at various ways to enable students to relate to a subject. Using the galleries of the Frick Art Museum and its exhibition, The Road to Impressionism: Barbizon Landscapes from the Walters Art Museum, experiment with music, movement and verbal and linguistic activities that address diverse learning styles. Box lunch included.

$10 for teacher members; $14 for non-members.
